Heeeellllooooo, you guys!!
I have to apologize for leaving you all high and dry for the past month!! I just wanted to stop by and assure you that I am still around and that THP will hopefully be up and running again very soon!
Some of you all have contacted me wondering if everything is okay and I assure you that it is! The past 6 weeks have been filled with lots of bad times but also, more recently, some really exiting times too!
When I first disappeared I was out of town dealing with a family emergency. My father was in the hospital for a while but thankfully he is doing much better right now and we were able to spend a wonderful family Christmas at home in Pikeville.
My return to work also happened to coincide with the busiest time of year for us – I’ve been trying to dig my way out of a (literal) mountain of papers. Thankfully things have slowed down a little and are starting to return to “normal busy” around the office.
Now for the exciting part…..
Tony and I just got an accepted offer on a new house!!! We are over-the-moon excited about the prospect of this house because we’ll have a lot more space including some acres and a creek! We’re in the process of trying to sell our current home right now so cross your fingers for us!
Hopefully we’ll be moving into the new house just in time to plant the spring garden. We’re so excited that our dreams of owning some land and a little slice of nature are coming true. I’m not a city girl by any means and I’ve been living in Louisville long enough! This house will give us the best of both worlds – a job in the city and a home in the country. Perhaps the best part is that we’re only adding 7 miles onto our daily commute so we are thankful to still be close to all of our favorite conveniences.

Begley got a moose for Christmas
I’ll be back soon but for now I hope everyone has had a great start to 2013!

Glad to see you back – missed you! Was hoping everything was okay. Congrats on the new house! That’s wonderful and exciting! I’m sure you will love having your “slice of nature”
Thanks! I think it’s going to feel a lot more like home =)
Oh Congrats on the house!! I hope your dad continues to feel better! Good luck with your future endeavors! =)
I’ve missed you, girl!!
Congrats on the new house! That is SO exciting! So you won’t be in Louisville anymore? I know I would definitely live out in the country, than in a neighborhood. Although I’d still like to be close enough to town too! I’m glad your dad is doing better.
Thanks!!! We’re not really leaving Louisville – I’ll still consider myself a Louisvillian! We both work in town so we’ll be here every day – just a short drive from our new house!! We’ll have a shorter commute than if we lived out in the east end so it really is the best of both worlds =) I saw you went to zumba – glad you liked it!
Excited for you about the house.
Did you use Nan’s recipe for the cake? It looks delicious, that is Russell’s favorite. Dad looks good, glad he is doing better.
BTW, we are discussing getting some chickens. If you have any knowledge about them please share.
Yes – Nan’s recipe with double the icing (which I hear is the only way to make it!) I did four layers instead of three though. Dad requested the cake =)
I don’t know too terribly much about chickens yet but there are some good resources online if you Google things like “backyard chickens”. I have started doing a little research about chicken coops and building my own, etc.
This isn’t the same house we showed you guys when we were visiting – it’s a different one! We’ll have plenty of space so you all will have to plan a visit and mom and dad will have to come too!
Im obssesed with your recipe photos what do you use to edit them and be able to write on them?
thanks!
Hi Keegan – Thanks! I have to admit that everything I do with my photos is self taught and probably the most backwards way of doing things. I edit in picasa and add text with publisher – things I already have! Nothing fancy here =)
Hey Rachel! So glad I found your blog!! I love finding other Louisville bloggers.
I live just outside the city too, and it is a nice break from the city life!
We’re really excited – we try to get out of the city as much as possible now but once we move it will be even better – the best of both worlds for sure! I think I remember when I posted photos from Jefferson Memorial Forest you said you all go hike there all the time too – crazy coincidence! I’ll miss being so close to it because that’s definitely our go-to area right now!
